Succession to a tenancy describes the situation when a tenant dies and another person is entitled to take over the tenancy of the property.

There is a 12 month qualifying period and notification requirement before qualifying persons have the right to succeed to a SST on the death of the tenant.

To qualify to a succession, the person must have occupied the house as his/her only or principal home for at least 12 months immediately before the death and you must have notified us in writing of the person living in the property, as the 12 month residency period does not start until we have been notified.
